Best Herbs & Spices to Keep on Hand to Roast Anything (Meat or Veg)

It’s taken me some time to get away from needing to follow recipes for some basic items. I’d like to become more savvy at being able to cook quick tasty meals on the fly. Especially with vegetables. And especially with meat. The list below are some essential items to stock for when you are looking for something quick, easy, requires no shopping for special ingredients, and casually elegant.

Basic Roast Anything Recipe

Drizzle some extra virgin olive oil on your vegetables or meat. Take a few of the herbs listed below and sprinkle on top and add a squeeze of a lemon. Then toss in the oven! Super easy! Bake at 400-425 (depending on the strength of your oven) for about 20 minutes.

SPICES/HERBS

Dried basil – Fresh is best of course, but when cooking on the fly, this can come in handy when you want to

Dried Parsley

Dried Thyme

Kosher or Sea Salt

Fresh Ground Pepper

Fresh Lemon Juice

Fresh Sage

Fresh Rosemary

 

The fresh herbs also make a great marinade for steak, especially good for less expensive cuts of meats that need a little help. I’ve done this with steak, chicken, pork, mushrooms, sqaush, peppers, sweet potatoes, potatoes, etv.  Works every time!
